I have a Muse, a Bluetooth dongle, and am on Windows XP. I am also already using Lucid Scribe with a MindWave Mobile. Do you have the time to briefly explain what I need to do, provided my hardware/software needs are sufficient, to connect Muse with Lucid Scribe? Thank you in advance.
Install the latest version of the Muse plugin: https://lucidcode.com/2015/01/16/interaxon-muse-eeg-0-9-2/. Then launch Lucid Scribe and it should pick it up.
If not, try installing the Muse SDK: http://www.choosemuse.com/developer-kit/. And then launching Lucid Scribe again.
Let me know if that works.
Thanks for your lightning fast reply. I have learned XP is a no go.
Muse SDK only supports Windows 7 and later. So I downloaded and installed Muse SDK on my Windows 7 laptop, and moved the Bluetooth dongle to that.
Installed the latest version of Lucid Scribe, then the plugin. When I tried to run Lucid Scribe, a command prompt opened, it said it was trying to connect, but there was no connection to Muse.
So I understood I first needed to pair the laptop with Muse somehow. Fiddled around with the Bluetooth guides in Windows 7, which initially did not pick up Muse, but after a while they did. One detail I first missed, is that the Muse button must be pressed more than 5 secs to enter pairing mode. and I entered the pairing code 1234. So just pressing the Muse button so the light comes on is not enough. After pairing, it works! I get squiggly lines for each sensor. Not that I understand exactly how to interpret them. But at least, some sort of success. Thank you for your time!
Elite. If you send me some screenshots and log files, I can make sure the squiggly lines are captured correctly. Can you make them jump when you frown? And when you look sharply to the left or right? Then I can see if I can add a REM channel…
Thank you again! As things are now, all Muse lines (except the Accelerometer 3, which is only visible as a sharp dip whenever I turn it off and then on again, otherwise it can not be seen anywhere on the graph) are basically located between the 800 and 1000 lines in the GUI, often on top of each other, and it also means that any fluctuations are relatively small (as opposed to the Concentration and Relaxation values from the Neurosky MindWave, which are extremely clear – I do realize that these are completely different animals and can not be compared, but if at all doable, it would probably be useful if the GUI could distinguish the respective Muse lines more clearly in some way – what exactly do the Muse lines actually show? Some sort of average power of all brainwaves at the sensor location?). Anyway, long story short, the small resolution makes it difficult to see what effect my actions have on them. The only thing that appears to have a strong consistent effect is waving my left ear [a little party trick of mine, dont ask].
The CPU line, when visible, sits between 0 and 400, by the way.
Oh, also, I am in a 50 Hz country (Thailand) as far as I know, and it looks like Muse IO starts at 60 Hz. Could this mess up readings somehow?
How do I go about sending you log files?
I just saw you have uploaded a new version, so I will download that now.
Could you have a look at my questions about how to send you screenshots, and about how the lines are calculated and represented in the GUI?
I am not sure if I just came off as too ignorant to bother with in my previous post, or whether you missed that the questions were there? I’m intent to help make this better – if there is anything I can do, that is.
I am sorry I missed your last post. I distinctly remember formulating a post, perhaps my machine crashed before I hit send or I left it open in a tab that was forgotten.
If you expand to the hour in the logs node that you want to send me, you can right-click on the node and select “Open File Location”. From there you should be able to drag and drop the LSD file into an email. Alternatively, you can right-click on a chart, and select “Copy With Axes” and paste that into an email to mcoder@lucid-code.com.
I would hope that the 50 Hz gets filtered out! I might have to configure the plugin a little better. You can also try to upload a screenshot to imgur and post the link in a comment to the latest version of the plugin. I will ask the user who helped with that update to upload a printout so we can compare.
Thanks for your commitment!
