Rolled a new Lucid Scribe plugin that monitors and records the EEG data from the Hypnodyne ZMax and triggers audio tracks when electrical activity from the eye muscles is detected during REM sleep.

Apologies Michael, I can’t seem to get the provided plug-in to recognize the Zmax. Port # is set at 8000 within LucidScribe, matching the HDserver settings for the default Hynodyne software, but still there is no activity shown in LS. Perhaps user error on my end,? Any friendly suggestions or further insight on this, is definitely appreciated.
No worries AJ, what is the output you are getting in the HDServer – does it say “1 client connected”? You need to start the HDServer first.
I just contacted the zMax people to see if I could get one. You’ve tried it? How is it?
I hope you are well.
Scott
Hi Scott, I’m great thanks. I have not tried it, but the data I have seen so far is solid. Perhaps I can connect you with the user who has one?
Hey Michael, I don’t know if you remember but you helped me with the Halograph a few years back. I’ve got one of the Hypnodyne zMax devices and they are the real deal (I’m a sleep physiologist by trade). My workplace is keen on using them in a medical setting too. i’m interested in your script and let me know if you or anyone else has questions about it
Thanks Stevie. I have let Scott know he can reply to you here. He also ran some tests on the Halovision… I’ve got to show more of the latest version – it now has facial recognition, which nukes the false positives from sleep artifacts like breathing and it no longer requires a PC to run! Might be interesting to run it in a lab at some point…
Hi Scott, see the reply from Stevie… he has root access to a sleep lab and you can ask him about the device.
Shouldn’t this be considered an EMG (electromyogram) and not and EEG (Electroencephalogram) since it is measuring eye muscle movement and not bain activity?
The ZMax itself is a research grade device used by many universities and measures brain activity (EEG). The Lucid Scribe plugin just records the data and looks for eye movement patters (EMG). So I’d say it is both. 😀
*Faceplant* Yeah I just noticed that when I went to the website. *Note to self: Don’t jump to conclusions before getting the facts* 🙂 While I am here. I was wondering if you can suggest a real consumer level EEG for PC. Open EEG has one but I think it requires putting together. I want an actual *affordable* ($500USD or less) EEG how is it that people don’t have these things already? I got an personal 12 lead EKG off Wish for $500CAN.
No worries. If it is for sleep research I would save up for the ZMax, it looks very promising from what I have seen so far. I don’t have one myself and wrote the plugin for a user off of their integration page. Otherwise you can get the OpenEEG pre-assembled from Olimex – the EEG-SMT. Or if you can stretch your budget have a look at OpenBCI. If not for sleep then I’d go with EMOTIV. I haven’t kept up with EEG for some years now – been focusing on night-vision and distracted by more pressing info-sec work.
